Non-Starch Polysaccharides (NSP’s)
What are Non-Starch Polysaccharides?
NSPs are gel-forming fibres which help hold plants walls together. These naturally are found in foods such as wholegrain bread and pasta.

What is the role of Non-Starch Polysaccharides?
NSPs have important health implications due to the effect upon the small and large intestines. This nutrient helps with maintaining a healthy digestive system and water absorption. Insoluble NSPs are effective laxatives and soluble NSPs help with blood glucose levels and lowering cholesterol.
What foods contain Non-Starch Polysaccharides?
NPSs can be found in many foods, with insoluble NSPs contained in wheat and rice and soluble NSPs in oats, rye, and beans.
