Vitamin E

What is Vitamin E?

Vitamin E (also known as alpha-tocopherol) helps to maintain health by supporting the immune system and healthy skin and eyes. This micronutrient is found in a variety of foods including plant oils, nuts and seeds. The NHS recommends an intake of 4mg per day for males and 3mg per day for females. For example, eating one serving (30g) of nuts would allow you to meet this target.

What is the role of Vitamin E?

Vitamin E supports healthy skin and eyes and also protects the body’s immune system against illness and infection. As a fat soluble vitamin, vitamin E is absorbed by the body with the fats in our diet and stored in the body’s fatty tissues and the liver.

What foods contain Vitamin E?

Foods rich in vitamin E include plant oils like rapeseed, sunflower, soya, corn and olive, nuts and seeds, wheatgerm (found in cereals).
