Whitworths and British Dietetic Association Form Strategic Partnership to Champion Nutrition’s role in Preventing Chronic Disease

1 July 2025 – Whitworths, the UK’s leading provider of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit, is proud to announce a new strategic partnership with the British Dietetic Association (BDA), the professional body and trade union for UK dietitians. This ground-breaking collaboration marks a significant milestone in Whitworths’ ongoing mission to fuel health and reduce disease through nutrition.

This multi-faceted partnership is designed to place nutrient-rich, whole foods—such as nuts, seeds and dried fruits—at the forefront of nutritional thinking among dietitians, student members, and the wider healthcare professional community. It reflects a shared commitment to tackling the rising burden of diet-related chronic diseases through evidence-based nutrition and education.

Key elements of the partnership include:

  • Direct communication with BDA members and students, ensuring that the nutritional value and versatility of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit are more widely understood and integrated into everyday dietary advice.
  • Collaboration on Whitworths’ nutrition policy and new product development (NPD), allowing Whitworths to align its innovation and internal practices with the latest scientific and dietetic standards.
  • Creation of a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training course, approved by the BDA, that explores the role of nutrition and food behaviours in chronic disease prevention and management. This course will equip participants with the latest insights and practical tools to apply nutrition science in their practice.
  • Development of new nutrition resources and tools, including educational content around nuts, seeds and dried fruit (DFNS) for broader healthcare audiences.

“At Whitworths, we believe that food is the most powerful tools for improving public health,” said Phil Gowland, Commercial Director & Director oh Health at Whitworths. “Partnering with the BDA allows us to deepen our impact by working with nutrition experts to support a range of direct or indirect health professionals that may not have nutritional related training – with the resources, training, and evidence they need to help people live healthier lives.”

Jo Lewis, BDA Director of Partnerships, added: “We are delighted to be working with Whitworths, a brand that shares our commitment to promoting the role of healthy eating in helping people feel and function well throughout their lives. This partnership will help us better support our members with practical education, the latest science, and trusted tools they can use with their communities.”

This partnership is a vital step in Whitworths’ long-term strategy to support healthier lifestyles and improve health outcomes by encouraging the inclusion of natural, nutrient-dense foods in everyday diets.
