Copper

What is Copper?

Copper is a mineral found in many foods including nuts and shellfish. The UK government recommends a copper intake of 1.2mg per day for adults. For example, eating 30g of sunflower seeds and 30g of cashew nuts would meet the daily target intake.

What is the role of Copper?

Copper is involved in the production of both red and white blood cells, and it also supports the formation of haemoglobin from iron, which is a red pigment that transports oxygen in the body.

What foods contain Copper?

Foods rich in copper include nuts, seeds, shellfish and offal. Copper intake requirements are usually met through consuming a healthy, balanced and varied diet.
