Petitioning for Change

After an inspiring 220km ride, the Whitworths team proudly arrived at Downing Street to deliver our White Paper, calling for greater recognition of the health benefits of dried fruit, nuts and seeds.

But this campaign was never just about cycling from one destination to another.

It was about starting a national conversation. A conversation about nutrition, accessibility, and the simple everyday choices that can have a profound impact on the nation’s health.

Every mile travelled represented our commitment to raising awareness of foods that are often overlooked, despite their remarkable nutritional value. Every conversation along the route reinforced the importance of making healthy eating simple, practical and achievable for everyone.

Today marks a significant milestone in that journey, but it is only the beginning.

Why Dried Fruit, Nuts and Seeds Matter…

For many people, healthy eating can feel complicated.

Conflicting advice, changing trends and misconceptions around food often make it difficult to know what choices will genuinely support long-term health and wellbeing. Yet some of the most powerful nutritional tools available are also some of the simplest.

Dried fruit, nuts and seeds are naturally packed with essential nutrients, including fibre, vitamins, minerals and healthy fats. These nutrient-dense foods can support balanced diets, help individuals meet daily nutritional recommendations and provide convenient, accessible options for busy lifestyles. Despite these benefits, they are frequently misunderstood. Many consumers remain unaware of the positive role these foods can play as part of a healthy diet. As a result, opportunities to improve nutritional intake through small, achievable dietary changes are often missed.

Our campaign seeks to change that.

Arriving at Downing Street is not the finish line. It is a milestone in a broader mission to help improve the nation’s health through education, awareness and accessible nutrition. We will continue to advocate for greater understanding of the benefits of dried fruit, nuts and seeds, while encouraging people to embrace simple, sustainable dietary habits that can make a real difference.

The Power of a Daily Handful

Sometimes meaningful change starts with the smallest actions.

Research continues to demonstrate the value of incorporating nutrient-rich foods into daily routines, and a simple handful (around 30 grams) of dried fruit, nuts and seeds can make a meaningful contribution towards a balanced diet. This is not about restrictive eating plans or unrealistic lifestyle overhauls. It is about helping people make better choices one step at a time.

A handful can be added to breakfast, enjoyed as a snack during the day, incorporated into lunchboxes, or included in evening meals. Small changes, repeated consistently, can lead to lasting habits that support better health outcomes over time.

By encouraging simple, practical dietary improvements, we believe healthier living can become more achievable for individuals, families and communities across the country.
