Fluid Intake
What is fluid intake?
Fluid intake expresses the amount of fluid within the product consumed. This metric is important to understand the overall fluid amount consumed across dietary intake. In the healthcare app, fluid intake is calculated from items added to the diary from the drinks categories such as hot drinks, dairy drinks, squash and cordials, and fruit juices and smoothies.
What is the role of fluid intake?
Fluid intake is an important part of the diet to help prevent dehydration. Throughout the day the body loses water in natural processes including sweating. Keeping up with fluid intake helps to replace these fluid losses and prevent dehydration.
What contains fluid?
Fluid can be consumed in different ways including water, tea/coffee, fruit juices and smoothies, milks, and soda. Some of these sources also contribute to the intake of other components of dietary intake such as energy, micronutrient and sugars.

Where to find fluid intake:
For users of the Smart Nutrition+ app fluid intake in millilitres may be found within the food diary.
